Surrounded by CharacterWomen are posing for nude photos today in greater numbers than ever before, and with greater degrees of sexuality. In fact, posing nude no longer seems an unusual career choice for such diverse women as athletes (Kаtаrіnа Wіtt, Amy Acυff), singers (Shаrі Bеllаfоntе), politicians (Cаnаdіаn Prіmе Mіnіstеr Kіm Campbell), or even nurses (Dаrvа Cоngеr). It seems that women from all walks of life are doing it. Women are also wearing more revealing clothing in public, not to mention going completely topless. Transparency and low cut dresses seem all the rage at gala celebrity affairs, movie openings and award shows. This past summer I was lucky enough to see several young ladies wearing transparent tops or dresses as they walked confidently down public streets. In fact, bare breasts are now protected by law in many places including Sоυth Bеаch Miami and Ontario, Canada. As for pornography, today, we are used to seeing every square inch of the bodies of beautiful women. Women have become so matter-of-factly exposed that it almost seems normal, now. But it's not. In fact, all this requires great trust - of women in men. Many people will tell us in this new century that such widespread female nudity is an indication of male sexual depravity and social regression . They are people who can't conceive of a woman who likes sex and is in charge of her own body. They purposely ignore the fact that the women who pose nude these days do so because they have CHOSEN to enjoy their sexuality and to show their bodies to the men around them. Those who are against female nudity scream that they want women to have the power of choice and control over their own sexuality, yet no one is more blind to the fact that, in this century, women have achieved precisely these things. As we start a new year in a new century in a new millenium, it's important to remember that this is a very modern accomplishment, the best we have achieved so far, and the best thing to happen to women since, well...ever. In the past, women were brutally butchered, forcibly covered, and rightless. Today, there are still many societies where men stone and burn women for exposing themselves or for simply being sexual - societies where the men have absolutely no character and women are terrified to be women. Our society is different. Gentlemen, let's take a moment out of the millenium to look at what beautiful nude women say about us, not with their words, but with their actions. Let's remember one of my favourite truths: women are willing to remove their clothing only to the extent that the men around them have character. |
