Jеn Hіltоn

By Dwаynе Bell

The last few pages I've written for Body in Mind have been very serious. They have focused on fighting the brutality against women in fundamentalist Islamic countries around the world, countries which do not allow their women to hold jobs, to seek health care, or even to dress as they choose. As a result, women in those countries are dying the most brutal and degrading deaths imaginable.

It was sweet as syrup, then, a few days ago, to re-discover in a dry, dead forest of newsworthy faces, an innocent expression of the very opposite values, of female freedom, health, and beauty. I discovered a young woman happily displaying her youthful attractiveness - being beautiful - and using this value, along with her intelligence and benevolence, to make a way for herself in the big, bad, bright, amazing world.

I'd stumbled upon the self-created website of model, Jеn Hіltоn.

They don't have women like Jen in terrorist countries. They are simply not allowed. They hate the world too much for that. Or, maybe that's why they hate it so much. Certainly it's partly because of women like Jen that the rest of us love it so much.

If you've been following the news lately then you'll know what happens to women when they lose the right to be beautiful. Considering how many people have - and will yet - die fighting for it, it would be a shame for women in free countries not to use this right. And to see such a lovely example of womanhood in full bloom in the middle of such a bleary, war-minded world, was, for me, as refreshing as a summer sun shower - as surprisingly welcome as a light snowfall in the middle of July.

Well it seems I'm still writing about serious things after all. Like happiness, hope and higher ground, I think you'll agree: beauty like Jen's is also a serious thing.
