Thoughtful art exhibit covered up as 'inappropriate for children'
December 15, 2007 - An artist who was using a local museum exhibit to explore attitudes towards art, pornography and nudity has had his images covered up for a group of fifth graders.
Nеаl Pеtеrsоn''s exhibit. "Thіrtееn Pіеcеs of Paper" features a graphic sex scene from Hustler magazine, Mіchаеlаngеlо's Adаm and Eve, an Annе Gеddеs photo of a nude mother with child and a Jеff Kооns photograph showing pornography as art. The idea was to mix the images together to question how they are perceived both separately and together. But the thoughtful display was covered up just when the people who ought to be thinking about things - teachers, and the younger generation - were set to visit.
The artist is crying censorship, but the museum claims they were 'misled' and the exhibit wasn't appropriate for children.
"If you want to make a statement, how about doing it the right way? No one has been censored." said the museum director.
