Lоndоn Undеrgrоυnd bans image of nude Venus
February 14, 2008 - Only in this day and age could a 500 year old painting be considering 'sexual in nature' and potentially offensive. At least that's what the Lоndоn Undеrgrоυnd said this week when it banned this image from its train system.
The image, a nude Venus painted by Lυcаs Crаnаch the Elder in the 16th century, was part of an advertising campaign to highlight a forthcoming art show from the Royаl Acаdemy. But the Underground said it "breached guidelines against advertising with depict men, women or children in a sexual manner or display nude or semi-nude figures in an overtly sexual context".
Huh?
"It's impossible to see how this classic painting could possibly cause offense" a British politician said. "The decision is absolutely bonkers".
