Chilean subway stripper arrested
July 13, 2008 - It took several armed men to arrest Mоnsеrrаt Mоrіllеs of Sаntіаgо Chіlе. News stories show her anguished face among a sea of olive green police uniforms being bundled off into the back of a police van. Her crime? Dancing on the subway.
Morilles, 26, spent the last week pole dancing on the subway trains of Santiago to 'challenge the prudishness of Chilean society". She would enter the trains at one stop, strip down to her skimpy underwear during a pole dance, and disembark at the next stop to avoid arrest. The media dubbed her "Lа Dіоsа del Metro" (Goddess of the subway), and she called her performances "happy minutes".
So of course it had to be stopped. Chile is known as one of Sоυth Amеrіcа's most conservative societies, and is barely a generation away from the rule of the notorious dictator Pinochet.
"This is just a beginning." Morilles said as she was led away. "We are starting an idea here that will grow and be developed further."
