Mіss Mаlаysіа pageant encourages 'killing off' contestants
August 10, 2008 - Organizers of the Mіss Mаlаysіа pageant have come up with a startling voting concept and ad campaign that encourages viewers to 'kill off' contestants, and even beauty itself.
This year's pageant involves an online voting system where visitors are encouraged to 'kill' the women they don't want to see proceed into the finals. So far twelve women out of 32 have been 'killed off'. The pageant winner will be the one with the most points from the judges and the fewest 'kill' points from the public.
The ad campaign is entitled "Kіll Bеaυty, Save the Children". A spokesman claims "The whole idea behind the beauty pageant is (that it's) not about beauty but about saving children. We want people to forget about beauty and concentrate on saving children because everyone on stage tonight is beautiful. Beauty is very subjective. We want to focus on something more concrete and meaningful."
