Is this image too sexual?
Apparently, this image is too sexual.
Nevermind that the skiier, Lіndsаy Vоnn, is touted as "Amеrіcа's Bеst Wоmаn Skііеr Ever". Nevermind that she's shown in a typical tuck position, on a ski hill, decked out in ski gear. Nevermind that there isn't anything remotely sexual about this photo or the woman in it. Because she happens to also be very attractive, feminist claws have come out.
A woman named Nіcоl Lа Voi writes on her blog that this cover is too sexualized, that Spоrts Illυstrаtеd rarely features women on their cover and that when they do, it's only to objectify them. "When females are featured on the cover of SI, they are more likely than not to be in sexualized poses and not in action - and the most recent Vonn cover is no exception" she writes.
If this isnt a blatant case of beauty bashing, we don't know what it. LaVoi even admits that Vonn "represents the norm of feminine attractiveness", while only passingly mention her athletic prowess. The result? She's beautiful, so we don't care how good she as at what she does, we don't want to see her held up as any kind of role model.
But what's even more absurd - on LaVoi's blog Wоmеn Tаlk Sports where the original story was posted, the top channel ad running down the side shows a beautiful woman blowing a kiss over the caption "Date hot women", and further down below, another ad shows a young girl dressed like a cheerleader under the heading "Playing with the Boys".
Now who's sexualizing women?
